How do brain injuries manifest?

Getting into an accident that results in a head injury will also often result in a brain injury. These injuries can manifest quickly and show in different notable symptoms.

It is important to understand and recognize these symptoms, as quick treatment is always crucial in the treatment of brain injuries.

Personality changes in TBI victims

Medline Plus discusses the impact of brain injuries on victims. Brain injuries can fall under the classes of mild, moderate and severe, with moderate and severe serving as the classes that require the most extreme and immediate intervention. However, even mild brain injuries should get seen by a doctor.

Moderate and severe brain injuries tend to have similar clusters of symptoms. A victim may lose consciousness for a period of time or black out completely. They may even enter a comatose state.

They can seem confused and irritated or agitated and may attempt to pick fights with those around them if they can verbalize well enough to do so. Some may slur their speech. Others may find it difficult to talk.

Nerve and head pains

Nerve pain may occur, in which victims will experience burning, tingling, numbness or the sensation of needles. Headaches also serve as a common symptom, with many victims experiencing piercing headaches that worsen over time.

In severe cases, a victim may also lose clear fluid from their nose or ears. This is cerebrospinal fluid, and if anyone sees someone with this happening, they should call emergency services immediately.

Quick treatment can mean the difference between life and death. The more severe a head injury is, the more true this statement rings.
